Peters Family Session

The Peters family called me just two weeks before Christmas to see if I was available on the 26th for a beach session in Ventura. I love when people know what they want and when they want it, so as soon as I saw that I could be back from family Christmas in time for a session with them, we booked. I’m so glad I did because, well, I love being at the beach for any reason. Also, this family was so easy to work with. I don’t think I’ve ever edited a family session where almost every image had everyone looking at the camera smiling and not blinking.

All the kids did an awesome job following direction (without being bribed), even the teenagers – which is saying something. Teens can often be the hardest to direct at sessions but these guys stuck it out and even had some fun with their cousins.

I chose the Port Hueneme Beach since it’s always empty and a fantastic beach to be at. The lighting that day could not have been better! Plus, we were in between storms so there was no rain and little wind. This beach is known for being windy so I’m really glad we avoided the wind and messy hair.

Everyone had fun and went with the flow which always makes for a great session. I love to be able to follow the lead of my families and not just get what I know they will want, but those other images that I can surprise them with. With young kids in the mix, I spent a little extra time capturing candids of their family and playful moments with them. They even asked me what I would photograph if these were my kids, so of course I had to get a few more of them running through the water. Since my kids may not listen, I do love when I can capture the images I want for other moms. Kids grow up so fast! At waters edge we had a little more fun with some Baywatch running shots and some sweet handholding memories.

Thank you for showing up with smiles on your face, even in the chaos of the season. I’m so glad we were able to make this work out and that the weather was perfect for us. These images are so wonderful and I know they will preserve this time for your family for years to come. I can’t wait to work with you again in the future.
