Lone Pine Coffee Roasters

From the moment I stepped into Lone Pine, I knew I was home…

Before Josh and I decided to move to Bend, Oregon, we knew that finding the perfect coffee shop was a huge a priority. I know that may sound crazy to non coffee-lovers, but we both knew that the perfect cup of joe could fix any problem. Well, okay, maybe not fix, but at least make us feel better about life when we needed it. 

We moved from Costa Mesa, California, where we would have coffee twice a week at a charming little coffee shop in Newport Beach. Kean was our go to place for a pick me up with a little joy on top. The coffee shop was created by Martin Diedrich and his brother who used the Diedrich coffee roasters to create their flavorful coffee. We loved it there! We knew all the regulars and were fascinated by the latte art. And most importantly, we fell in love with coffee there.

When we visited Bend 7 years ago, we tried all the coffee shops and just never found the sweet little spot that we could call home. Then we looked down Minnesota alley and saw a sign. Literally, there was a sign the read: ”COFFEE”. So, feeling like we were entering into a secret land like Diagon Alley, we approached the coffee shop. The first thing we saw upon opening the door was the artwork from a local artist. The second things we saw was the Diedrich coffee roaster. 

Josh and I both looked at each other with a smile that says, “This could be it, but let’s see how it tastes”. We knew it was a good sign when Josh’s espresso was served with a side of sparkling water. The ultimate test for me is in the cappuccino. I’ve had countless cappuccinos in Europe and in the US. If a cappuccino can bring me back to the little streets of Florence, Italy, then the coffee shop has won my heart. Kean has that magic. Lone Pine does too. 

It was perfect and we knew we were home. We moved to Bend about 10 months later. I’m not sure we would have been able to make the move it wasn’t for Scott and the amazing coffee shop he created: Lone Pine Coffee Roasters. 

Lone Pine’s charming location in the beloved brick alley came to a close this week with an after party filled with regulars, employees and Lone Pine lovers. Part of me died with the closing, but I will look forward to the new location opening soon. I’m just hoping we can figure out how to order coffee beans while the shop is closed!
